Flying to and From Poland:

Poland currently has around ten airports for international flights, these are listed below. The main airport for international flights is located in the capital city of Warsaw.
  • Warsaw Airport (Frederic Chopin Airport) - Is located in the Okecie district of Warsa and is the main international airport for Poland, located as it is so close to Poland's capital. It handles over 50% of poland's air passenger traffic with around 100 scheduled flights a day. It has two terminals with a third scheduled for construction soon, both terminals handle international flights. The airport is generally in a good condition, but busy. However there is no rail service only regular buses or taxis, though there is a long stay car park available. Both British Airways and LOT offer regular service to and from Heathrow, along with cheap flights on budget airlines.
  • Krakow Airport (John Paul II International) - Is Poland's second largest airport, and is located 11km west of the city center. It has two termianls, terminal 1 is for international flights and terminal 2 is for domestic flights. There is a regular train service during the day into Krakow, in addition to the normal bus and taxi services. A number of airlines operate flights to Krakow most noticeably British Airways, Ryan Air, Eayjet and Lufthansa are probably the largest companies to do so.
  • Bydgoszcz (Ignacy Jan Paderewski) Airport - This is a Polish regional airport near the city of Bydgoszcz, Poland. In fact it is only 3 km from the city center. It a small airport (tenth in terms of passenger traffic) with only one runway.
  • Gdansk (Lech Walesa) Airport - It is located near to the city centers of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdyina. It is used as a diversionary airport for Warsaw airport and is a fairly small with only one runway. However there are an increasing number of routes and flights to the UK each year. There are bus connections to the three nearby cities or taxis. There are a few car hire companies with offices at the airport.
  • Katowice International Airport - Is located in Pyrzowice 30km north of the Katwoice city center. It has two passenger terminals (A and B). There is no rail service,  however there is a high speed road connection and an hourly bus service. There are an increasing number of flights to this airport by budget airlines from the UK. A point of note is that although Katwoice is an industrial town, it is only an hour away from historic Krakow by bus.
  • Lodz Wladslaw Reymon Airport - Is located approximaetly 6km southwest of Lodz city center and only about 90km from Warsaw. It has recently been upgraded to handle more flights from low cost airlines, it has two terminals and is a mid-size airport by polish standards. It has a regular bus service to nearby railways stations and the normal bus and taxi services.
  • Poznan-Lawica Airport - Is located 7 km west of Poznan city centre and is one of the oldest airports in Poland. It is served by budget flights mostly. There are regular bus services to Poznan and taxis queue at the terminals. It is described as a modern airport with good facilities but somewhat regional.
  • Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport - Is located in the southeast of Poland in Jasionka, 10km from the city center of Rzeszow. The airport is undergoing rapid expansion and is somewhat busy as a result. There are buses, taxis and shuttle buses to Rzeszow and Lublin. LOT and RyanAir fly the most flights to and from this airport.
  • Szczecin Goleniiw Airport - Is located 45km northeast of Szczecin, despite this it is still the major airport for Szczecin. It is only 7km from the nearest train station and there are regular taxis and buses, and car hire is available. The terminal has also recently finished being expanded. There are flights to and from Bristol, Luton, Dublin and Stanstead by various airlines.
  • Wroclaw (Copernicus) Airport - Is located 10km southwest of the city center of Wroclaw, it has one passenger terminal and one runway, currently seven airlines operate flights to and from it. It's passenger terminal is modern and well served from various UK airports. There are regular bus and taxi services to Wroclaw, which is the largest city in south-east poland.
Cost
There are numerous discount airlines (Ryanair, Wizz and easyjet) operating flights to most of Polands international airports. As well as the national Polish airline (LOT) which is fairly low cost. So it should be realtively easy to find a low cost flight. And most UK airports serve Poland, though you will have more of a chance of getting a cheap flight if you fly from more regional airports (e.g. not Heathrow or Manchester). Expect to pay around £80 to £500 for a return flight depending upon the airport you are flying to or from in Poland and the carrier you choose. Avoid major holiday times,as prices will be pushed higher a lot higher as the number flying to Poland jumps significantly more at these times.

A bit of information about Poland

Poland stretches across several geographical regions, from the Baltic sea and it's sandy beaches in the southwest to the Gulf of Gdansk and the northern lowlands to the Pomeranian Lake District. And lying in the south is Poland's mountian region. This means it has a wide variety of unspoilt countryside to enjoy. Cutlurally and historically there is plenty to enjoy, though there has been considerable damage and loss over the years. Both Warsaw and Krakow have old towns and other historic features to enjoy. The tourist season is usually from April to October when it is warmest. Though winter holidays for skiing are becoming increasingly popular, but most of the tourist hotspots are closed down during this period.Travelling in Poland is fairly easy as the road system is up to European standards and the bus and rail links are fairly good.
